To use MS Windows remote access that is built into XP (and I think 2k) from a linux client, you can use these great tools. (grdesktop is a frontend to rdesktop)

A quick search turned up these alternatives. VNC is good because it allows both the client and the server to see the same thing and works well on all platforms but is much slower than RDP.
